Isolating lineart in SAI by dust-bite Isolating lineart in SAI by dust-bite
I was going to wait to put this up, but oh well. Easiest tutorial ever I might say. If you don't have SAI/never used it, you should, it's a really great program. I use it to do all my work in.

I'll do more tutorials about SAI soon. I really want to do my copic tutorial, that will be someday if I can find my camera cord or buy a new one.

Anyway, enjoy~ Bed time for me.

When it comes to photoshop, it's pretty simple to just use the tricks at hand. Which is making a new top layer out of the lineart (usually setting the background color back to white), setting that layer to "multiply", and using your brush at the "color" setting to add color on the lineart layer. An extra step or two, sure, but fast and simple.

It doesn't give the artwork the same finish though; if you want to "paint", you can't do it with the multiply option. It's better to isolate the lineart, by deleting the white background altogether.

I suppose. Until there's a SAI for mac, I'll have to stick to photoshop.

Thank you SO much for this, I've read other great Sai tuts and they mention "how" to also color the lines, but they didn't express in the kind of detail needed like you do here. They would only mention locking the lineart layer and I guess assume we knew the rest.

Big part of the reason I didn't get it working is me not realizing I had an old version of Sai, so thanks for that also, heh.

Anyways, thanks again and looking forward to more tuts in the future!

uwaaaah, I miss SAI D:
I had the trial forever ago, and I loved it so much.
But then my trial ran out, and SAI said 'fuck you' and took all of my pictures I made on it with it. nng.

I want it back, but I'm afraid I've been using GIMP far too long to switch D:
and GIMP still confuses me ajdhf;ld

/meaningless rant

you can do something like this on GIMP, too. Layers>Transparency>Colour to Alpha, so long as the background is one colour :D

Also yes, I've tried that in GIMP before SAI had this tool, it was really useful.

This is probably going to sound like the most newbish thing ever.... >w>;
How do you lock layers on SAI? I'm used to photoshop, where you could just click on the little box on the layer, and that would lock it... But with SAI that doesn't seem to be the case...
